Maeema – Estonia's ecological transformation
Speculative Future Scenario:
What if a an entire nation transformed from an economy-oriented to an ecology-oriented system?
'Maaema' (est. Maa: earth; est. Ema: mother) is a speculative design project that explores a near-future scenario where Estonia takes on a frontrunner role in the ecology-oriented systematic reorganization of the state in an attempt to adapt to climate change while mitigating its aggravation.
The project showcases an agenda issued by the Republic of Estonia in 2035, which is meant to teach adults and children alike about the program and the fundamental changes it entails. In this scenario, a country takes on responsibility regarding the mitigation of climate change and makes drastic, large-scale changes to the status quo so that an exemplary transformation from an economy-oriented to an ecology-oriented system can be achieved, and a healthier relationship with nature can be built on an individual, collective, and transgenerational level.
The 'Maaema' Manifesto contains both an illustrated, child-friendly presentation of the topic and the standard version of the publication, which every citizen of Estonia has familiarized themselves with.
