Research Question:

How do people experience and cope with feelings of 'too much' in their daily life?

Video-Prototype

It’s too much! Though the feeling of too much is widespread, it is hard to grasp and control it as it seemingly encompasses everything. A lot of things can be too much: streets, neon lights, silence, darkness, family, to-do lists, happiness, public transportation, work, the books you want to read, opinions, friends, jokes, decorations, you, perfume, love, spilled coffee, trends, ambitions, violence, watering plants, expectations, talking, news, supermarkets, a flat tire, and too much more.

'Too much' is as common a feeling as it is diverse. Our project aims to explore the feeling of overwhelm, its magnitude, and its diversity. Based on interviews and public interventions, we created a multi-media exhibition with the intention to show visitors the diversity of too-much-ness, let them find comfort in its “sharedness,” make them reflect upon their own way of dealing with it, and remind them of the control they actually do have.

'Too much' was exhibited at Berlin Design Week 2024.
