In which ways can today's contextual duality of historical monuments be shown without adding physical damage?
In which ways can today's contextual duality of historical monuments be shown without adding physical damage?
Nothing lasts forever, yet monuments are trying. Everyone has heard expressions like “history is written by the victors” or “every medal has two sides,” but how often do we think about what truly is on that this other side? Who do the monuments in our city represent, and what facts are overlooked in the textbook descriptions of historical or political heroes?
Through the 'Cornerstone' campaign, we draw attention to the complex issue of untouchable status of monuments. By making a toolkit we created a system enabling anyone interested to engage in independent protests. We engage critically with our monument landscape and we’re trying to prove that history is not set in stone.
'Cornerstone' was exhibited at Berlin Design Week 2024.
