In a society whose expectations are increasingly characterized by stringently planned workflows, the term waiting time appears to have consistently negative connotations: Waiting means wasting valuable time! How naturally we are accustomed to rushing through our busy daily lives, fast-forwarding the slow and beating on devices that don't live up to our idea of real-time.
Yet waiting time, in a neutral sense, can be described as a period of time in which people experience alone or while interacting with other people and/or machines, which are influenced only to a certain extent. It does not matter whether this moment is determined by excitement, anticipation, deep breathing or by nerve-racking perseverance.
How can waiting be designed as a moment in products, interactions and entire services? Does it need to be designed at all? And in which contexts do we as designers encounter the topic of waiting in our work?

This project is about finding a personal attitude towards the phenomenon of waiting in different contexts and at the same time reflecting on how it will change due to current developments in the fields of society, technology and ecology.
From this pool of observations and insights, constructively critical ideas for experiencing waiting situations emerged. These ideas were made tangible in the form of prototypical waiting artifacts, iteratively improved, discarded and reinterpreted.
