“The Unexpected UI” focuses on questioning standardized UX patterns by prototyping poetic interactions for specific scenarios. The course introduces Figma, a vector and prototyping collaborative design tool, to create unconventional and experimental interfaces.

Through a series of exercises, presentations and projects the students are able to conceptualize, sketch, design and prototype a desired unexpected UI. By encouraging open experimentation in a safe studio setting, the students are taught to see behind conventional, standardized ways of designing interfaces and elements. At the end of the course the students walk away with an understanding of UX techniques and methods, and a proficiency to design interactive UI elements according to modern standards and principles.
